Enterprise Data Repository 

PROBLEM: A major teaching hospital wanted to support patient-level data access across the institution (physicians, nurses, residents, fellows) for research and discovery, hypothesis testing and bedside care

Clinical, Outcomes, Health Services Research

PROBLEM:  Academic centers and community hospitals want to contribute data to a shared data repository for cancer research 

SOLUTION: De-ID™ within each institutions firewall de-identifiy pathology reports and FTP them to a central HIPAA compliant database.  These reports are normalized using an NLP solution and accessible by researchers cross the data sharing network

Clinical Trial Recruitment

PROBLEM: A clinical trial recruitment company needed to sort through thousands of records to find eligible candidates.

De-ID™ SOLUTION: De-ID™ was used to create de-identified versions of reports that could be searched and sorted for eligibility criteria without PHI. Once such records were found, De-ID’s Linkage Key™ function could be used by a trusted proxy to contact the physician responsible for that patient.

OUTCOME: De-ID™ enables greater access to the number of eligible candidates found in disparate clinical settings who meet the inclusion criteria of various clinical protocols.

Health Information Exchange (HIE)

PROBLEM: Even when patient record sharing is legal based on participation in HIEs, population or outcomes research on these data sets is restricted. HIPAA does not permit the use of protected health information (PHI) in research studies without the explicit consent of the patient.

De-ID™ SOLUTION:  By making De-ID™ an integral and integrated part of the HIE system architecture, data consortia and other interested parties can access large quantities of completely de-identified data for secondary use.  De-ID™ can be used automatically in real time on files within the HIE to create a de-identified repository, or can be established as a web service in which files can be ‘ordered’ by disease, treatment or subject matter, and de-identified in batches.

Data Mining for Translational Research

PROBLEM: A major medical center had to develop a patient privacy solution in order to move forward on an important data-mining program in clinical genomics.

De-ID™ SOLUTION: De-ID™ was tested in their system and has been validated to reliably de-identify the large volume of data necessary. Customer modifications to De-ID™ further aligned the software with the research objectives.

OUTCOME: De-ID™ is now successfully de-identifying and processing terabytes of data in preparation for analysis by other sophisticated pattern recognition algorithms.
